Bertie Ahern is a former Irish politician. He was the leader of Fianna Fáil, He was Minister for Labour from 1987 to 1991 and was appointed Minister for Finance on three separate occasions from 1991 to 1994. Ahern was first elected Prime Minister (Taoiseach) of Ireland in 1997; he was re-elected in 2002 and again in 2007; as one of the few leaders in Europe able to govern for an extended period time, Ahern promoted the development of the Irish economy and created the most prosperous economy in Irish history. He served as Rotating President of the European Council in 2004. Ahern’s achievements as a leader at home and abroad have been recognised internationally. Since leaving office, he has been involved in conflict resolution worldwide and is currently the co-chair of the Interaction Council.
